Do you send an email to the addresses you check?
No. We talk to the receiving mail server and ask whether the mailbox exists, then close the connection before a message is sent. The person behind the address never hears from us.
Why do some addresses come back as catch-all or unknown?
Some domains accept mail for every possible address, so their servers will not say whether one mailbox exists. Others answer slowly or refuse checks. We label these clearly rather than guessing, and we never charge for an unknown result.
What happens to the lists I upload?
Your lists are used only to run the checks you asked for. They are deleted automatically 30 days after the check finishes, or straight away if you delete them yourself. We never sell, share or reuse your data.
Which file types can I upload?
CSV, TXT and Excel (XLSX) files. If your file has several columns, BounceBell finds the email column for you and keeps the rest of your data as it is.
Why do you ask for a work email to sign up?
Free checks are for businesses trying the service. Asking for a company address keeps the free tier from being used to test stolen or scraped lists.
